First week of work went well. Really its very similar to working in the new york office (no, the aussies don’t leave work at 5pm everyday to go to the pub. Well, aussies that work at goldman at least don’t do that). The people are pretty amusing, there are some good characters. We did go out for “welcome” drinks Wednesday night and then there was something they called a “beer trolley” on Friday afternoon, but I was continuously assured that that is a rare occurrence and only happened because they had just wrapped up 3 weeks of intense and constant work. All I can say is having a “beer trolley” would never happen in new york but it’s a wonderful concept.
Saturday we bought some essentials for our apartment that we can’t wait for from our ship that is still somewhere in the middle of the Pacific. We got an air mattress, a few kitchen items, a couple of camping chairs, sheets, and towels. Nothing exciting but a few things that we would really have a hard time surviving without for the next 8 weeks. After picking these things up we dropped them by the new place which I hadn’t seen since our initial viewing a few weeks ago. I love the place! I’m so excited to move in there (I do wish though we would have our furniture sooner!). I put a couple pictures in below of the place, but they don’t really tell the story properly. Once we actually move in i’ll put up more pictures that I think will do a better job of showing the place.

Sunday, we got up early to go participate in the City2Surf run which is a race from the city out to Bondi Beach. We had grand plans of training for 10 weeks leading up to it so we could run the whole 14K but the training program never really got off the ground. So we didn’t really delude ourselves into thinking we could run 8+ miles up and down big hills so we ended up walking the thing at a decent walking pace (a lot of people as it turns out walked it). They said 70,000 people took part…the crowds at the beginning were unbelievable! It was really fun though, they had a couple bands playing along the way and it was just fun for us to have a little sightseeing walk. The weather was great at the beginning of the day but started getting cloudy as we got to the finish and started raining a little after we had finished. To get back to the city, they were running extra buses so we figured it wouldn’t be a big deal…turns out the line to get on the bus stretched literally like a mile. It was the longest line I’ve ever seen (maybe an exaggeration) so after standing in it for 10 minutes and progressing maybe 3% of the way, we decided to walk back to Bondi Junction which is probably a couple miles from the beach to catch the train back to the city. With our tired and sore feet and legs it was a painful walk but was definitely the right choice. I put in a few pictures below from the race and a link to a few more.
